Selling Sunset launched the 7th season. To date, they have showcased over 100 houses in the series. We can learn about the design solutions they have in common to unlock the luxury living in our own spaces. No, that doesn’t mean you have to add extra 5 bathrooms to your home. Here are the 7 design tips on how to achieve luxury in your home.

Design Tip 1: Clean Spaces

Decluttered surfaces and with no dust, no spills, none of the dishes are left in the sink overnight. This is the basic of every home looking the best it can is to keep it clean. LA mansions are spacious in size so keeping it clean is probably left to professionals, but you can keep your house clean by allocating a couple of hours per week and doing a small clean-up every day. I am using the ‘Clean sink’ method where you always leave your sink clean overnight. The method originates from the Flylady cleaning system, where you start your organizing journey by cleaning the sink every night and not leaving any dishes inside.

It keeps you organized and builds a habit. Having a clean sink helps with having your morning coffee stress-free and not fighting with the kettle and unwashed dishes. You will rarely see clutter in the big houses of LA. Everything has its place and there is no room for misplacement. Try to minimize what you keep on your counters and categorize.

Design Tip 2: Prioritize High-Quality Materials

Like for clothing the materials you choose for your home matter not only for aesthetics but also durability and health. If you surround yourself with the best quality materials you can afford and prioritise natural finishes like stone or wood it will serve you much better for years and age with style.Hardwood, although expensive will last a long time. It gets you connected to nature. Opt for wooden flooring if the budget allows or use wood in items that you use often like chairs or tables where the cost per use justifies the initial investment.

Design Tip 3: Prioritize Views and Invest in Your Outdoor Space

What is outside looking in and can be exposed should be appreciated. If you look at the mansions of LA it seems like achieving this look is almost impossible in a normal setting. However, you can keep in mind the priority of exposing any windows and views you have in your house even if it’s only one room. Even if you have a small window seal you can dress it with flowers in pots. Investing in any outdoor space gives the space a feel of luxury.

Make the best of maximizing the natural light that comes to your home. To do that it is also worth knowing the position of the house and which one is it facing. Any south-facing windows can be exposed to let as much natural light as possible. But don’t worry if you are not blessed with a lack of natural light it can all be corrected with the use of strategically placed lighting.

Design Tip 4: Opt for Neutral Colour Scheme

It has stood the test of time and it’s going to last for years as neutral colours are timeless. A bad color scheme can make or break a room. When you keep it simple you are saving money and time shopping, you can focus on getting the best quality and narrow down the visual clutter. From 50 shades of beige to greys whites and blacks, the LA mansions are usually simple in their color schemes but bold in the shapes and quality of furnishing and finishes. The neutral color scheme acts as a background to the furnishing and doesn’t compete for attention. The eye can rest and the scheme is then more harmonious.

Design Tip 5: Upgrade Your Lighting Fixtures and Strategically Place Lighting

A statement light fixture elevates the space immediately and gives it a focus point. You can create light points around the house to give an ambiance lighting because even though you will have a standing-out pendant in luxury houses is the ambient light that gives the expensive feel. Add LED strip light under cabinets to create mood lighting.

Design Tip 6: Create a Feature Focal Point

It doesn’t have to be a big statement but something that brings focus to the eye. If the room has any architectural features that can be accentuated give it exposure for that high-end architectural look. A piece of artwork or as mentioned before a striking pendant. The concept of a feature focal point is to give the room an anchor for the eye of the observer. It’s a starting point for the eye to move across the room and discover it.

Design Tip 7: Adding an Electric Fireplace for Cosy Elegance

For those cozy autumn evenings or late summer nights when you add some fire to the space it gives this chic glamourous feeling. You can see them in almost every home featured in the program. The flickering fire in the background always elevates the room. The appeal of electric fireplaces lies in their convenience and ambiance. It is a budget-friendly way to add a touch of luxury to your home.

Those tips will help you to give your home the luxury feel and improve the space you are living in. We can get inspiration and improve even small spaces if we focus on the design tips and solutions from the LA mansions. In this case, the size truly doesn’t matter.
